FLYERS USE OFFENSIVE PRESENCE TO TAKE 9-3 WIN

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Dayton baseball team had nine runs on 16 hits in the game as the Flyers cruised to a win over the Billikens.

The Flyers struck first in the third inning with a single run on a solo home run by senior Ryan Berry, his seventh of the season.

Dayton piled on to its lead in the sixth with a four-run inning. Junior Greg Rhude started things off with a sacrifice fly, plating sophomore Aaron Huesman. Senior Kuris Duggan then followed with an RBI single to right. Junior Sergio Plasencia capped off the frame with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Duggan and Berry.

Saint Louis broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth with a single run. The Billikens went on to close the gap in the eighth with a pair of runs, making it a 6-3 ball game.

The Flyers extended their lead in the top of the 9th on Huesman's solo home run to left-center. Plasencia added a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-3 before junior Alex Harris' two-run single to center made it a 9-3 contest in Dayton's favor.

That would be the final score as the Flyers took a 9-3 win from the Billikens.

Starter Noah Buettgen (6-5) had a strong performance on Saturday, giving up just three runs on eight hits in nine innings. It was the junior starter's fifth complete game of the season as he added four strikeouts to his total.

Plasencia had an outstanding game with three RBI while Alex Harris added two and Huesman, Rhude, and Duggan added one RBI apiece. Dayton wracked-up 16 hits in the contest compared to SLU's eight hits.

The Flyers (20-23, 11-9 A-10) will finish their series at Saint Louis at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
