Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped the series finale at Saint Louis on Sunday by a score of 8-5.
The Flyers took the initial lead on Sunday, similar to the win on Saturday. Dayton scored a pair of runs in the second inning on an RBI single by sophomore
Luke Wolford and a Billiken error which resulted in senior
Ryan Berry scoring.
Saint Louis was able to get on the board in the third inning with a single run.
In the top of the fifth inning, sophomore
Aaron Huesman plated junior
Alex Harris with an RBI groundout, putting the Flyers ahead 3-1.
Huesman then followed up with a two-run single in the seventh to extend Dayton's advantage to four runs, at 5-1.
The Billikens got both those runs back in the bottom half of the frame however with a two-run double.
In the eighth, Saint Louis pulled one run closer, making it a 5-4 ball game before another two-run double gave the Billikens a 6-5 lead over Dayton. SLU went on to add two more runs and take an 8-5 lead from the Flyers.
That would turn out to be the fateful inning as Dayton was shutout in the ninth to end the contest, 8-5.
Starter
Charlie Dant was coming off a complete game performance last weekend and went 6 2/3 inning, allowing three runs on five hits before leaving the game. Reliever
Nick Weybright (1-4) was stuck with the loss after giving up five runs in the eighth.
Dayton was led at the plate by Huesman, who added three RBI to his total, and Wolford, who also contributed an RBI. UD had eight hits in the ball game and did not commit a single error.
The Flyers (20-24, 11-10 A-10) will take on Wright State next at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 in Fairborn, Ohio.
