Full List of AchievementsDAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton softball team followed up its historic 2013 campaign with an even better 2014 season. The Flyers finished the season with 27 wins, the most since 2000. In her seventh season, head coach
Cara LaPlaca led the Flyers to a 27-29 record, and a 9-9 mark in the Atlantic 10, finishing fifth in the conference standings. The 27 wins are the most in a single season for LaPlaca, and it is her fifth 20-win season at UD.
Dayton made a second-consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship appearance, marking its third in the last four years, and sixth overall. The team's two victories in the tournament are the most ever by any Flyer softball team.
Many new single-season program records were set in 2014, including batting average (.289), home runs (53), RBI (253), runs (281), doubles (90), walks (164) and slugging percentage (.453). Â
Some individuals also cracked the record books, starting with junior
Kayla English, who now holds the all-time career record in strikeouts with 443, ranks third in wins with 36, and fourth in innings pitched with 459.2. Others include senior
Rachel Archer who finished her career tied for third in stolen bases with 46, and tied for fifth in runs with 87. Fellow seniors
Kasi Vazquez and
Jordan Jennings finished tied for third and fourth respectively on the all-time home runs list with 22 and 21. Vazquez also finished second all-time in walks with 74. Junior
Tiffany Ricks led the Flyers in seven offensive categories this season, and is in the top five of four different career records (batting average, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage).
The Flyers were also honored numerous times individually, including six players on A-10 All-Conference teams, three players on NFCA All-Region teams, four A-10 Player of the Week awards, two A-10 Pitcher of the Week awards, and two A-10 Rookie of the Week awards.
