DAYTON – University of Dayton redshirt freshman quarterback
Alex Jeske was one of 32 players in the nation named to the College Football Performance Award's 2015 FCS National Freshman Performer of the Year midseason watch list.
Since entering the game late in the first half in the season opener against Robert Morris and sparking a 27-24 comeback win on the road, Jeske has started every game for the Flyers and led the team to an undefeated 9-0 record this season, as well as a possible berth in the FCS playoffs.
Dayton is one of only three remaining undefeated FCS teams (Harvard and McNeese State are the other two) and only needs one more win over its next two games to clinch the PFL Championship and an automatic spot in the FCS playoffs.
On Oct. 31 versus Jacksonville, Jeske completed his first 11 passes to open up the game and finished 20-23 (87%), while throwing for 180 yards and a touchdown and also adding a touchdown on the ground to help the Flyers to a 31-14 victory.
Last week on Nov. 7 against Morehead State, in a game that had first place in the PFL on the line, Jeske was 19 of 28 through the air, including nine for 12 on third downs. Dayton won the game, 20-15.
On the season, Jeske has thrown for 1,639 yards and 10 touchdowns while completing over 61 percent of his passes. He has also scored three rushing touchdowns.
Of the 32 nominees, the watch list includes 12 quarterbacks, 11 running backs, six wide receivers, two placekickers, and one defensive lineman.
Jeske is one of only three PFL players to make the watch list. The others are San Diego quarterback Anthony Lawrence and Marist wide receiver Juston Christian.
The CFPA award winners will be announced Jan. 13, 2016.
Dayton's next game will be Senior Day against Marist (5-4, 4-2 PFL) on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Welcome Stadium and will kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
