KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team finished up the 2015 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships on Sunday with more success.
"We faced some adversity this weekend, but the women did a great job coming together," said Head Coach
Jason Francis. "We had many strong performances on day two of the championships led by two conference champions."
The Flyers finished sixth overall with 57 points, beating out the likes of Duquesne, Saint Joseph's, and Saint Louis.
Freshman
Erin Reese was named the Atlantic 10 Indoor Rookie Performer of the Meet after a gold medal in the weight throw on Saturday, recording a mark of 15.93m. She is the second Flyer to receive that honor in program history. On top of that, she finished sixth in the shot put as well.
Freshman Jenni Rossi added another A-10 title with her championship performance in the shot put. With a distance of 14.27m, the Middletown, Ohio native set a new personal record.
The Flyers were the only A-10 program with a freshman conference champion after Reese and Rossi's performances.
Senior
Rebecca Maj won the gold medal in the high jump with a mark of 1.73m, earning the Flyer her first Atlantic 10 title. It was a career best for Maj and the second highest jump in school history.
Seniors
Isolde Hannan and
Katy Garcia also competed in the high jump, finishing in a tie for 10
th overall.
The 800m finals saw two Flyers compete as freshman
Brittany Fisher finished fifth and senior
Chelsea VanHook finished sixth.
In the one mile event, freshman
Kate Crawford finished 16
th and
Claire Attea finished 19
th.
Freshman
Emily Leonard had a strong showing in the 3000m with a time of 10:00.73, putting her in ninth place and shaving 15 seconds off her previous best. Sophomore
Kathleen Keene set a personal record as well.
Dayton finished off the day with the 4x800m relay by placing eighth with a time of 9:28.47.
