Box Score CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – The University of Dayton baseball team allowed just two hits to Murray State in a 3-1 win in the second game of the series.
After dropping the weekend opener, the Flyers had a strong day on the mound and in the field to pick up their second win of the season.
Senior
A.J. Ryan put Dayton up 1-0 in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly, scoring sophomore
Cale Dineen. It came after back-to-back singles by Dineen and senior
Alex Harris.
That score held until the bottom of the third when Murray State tied the game up with a sacrifice bunt that scored the runner from third.
It would be Dayton that would break the deadlock in the top of the eighth inning when senior
Sergio Plasencia lined a double to right field, plating senior
Zach Schira.
In the top of the ninth, sophomore
Robbie Doring provided an insurance run with an RBI double to right, putting Dayton ahead 3-1.
Despite being a battle through most of the game, the Flyers held on late to take a 3-1 win over the Racers in the second game of the series.
Dayton totaled seven hits in the game from six different players, including junior
Aaron Huesman's 2-for-4 outing. Plasencia, Ryan, and Doring provided the crucial RBIs for UD.
Starter
Charlie Dant (W, 1-2) had one of the best starts of his career, giving up just one run on two hits while striking out six in seven innings on the mound. Junior reliever
Sam Brunner (S,1) earned his first save of the season with perfect eighth and ninth frames.
The Flyers (2-6) will finish up their series with Murray State on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
