Final ResultsCINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's track and field team completed its weekend at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational Saturday.
The Flyers scored 92 points and finished fourth overall out of 17 teams in their first outdoor meet of the 2015 season. Dayton came in ahead of the likes of Butler, Xavier, Eastern Kentucky, Wright State, and Kentucky.
"I was impressed with how the woman performed today in our first outdoor meet," said Head Coach
Jason Francis. "We had many lifetime bests set today which makes me very excited as we will only get better as the season progresses."
In the pole vault, freshman
Leah Frischmann had a great outdoor debut by winning the event with a 3.80m vault. Senior
Ashley DeMange followed in third place with a height of 3.50m while freshman
Hayley Clark finished fourth and freshman
Jessica Thornbury finished tied for sixth. Between the four, the Flyers got 23.5 points from the event.
Seniors
Mary List and
Megan Collins finished back-to-back in the 5000m event as List took 12
th and Collins took 13
th.
In the 1500m, four Flyers competed and all four finished in the Top 22. Freshman
Brittany Fisher led the way with a time of 4:52.41, good enough for 11
th place. The trio of junior
Olivia Albers, freshman
Nicole Steinbicker, and freshman
Kate Crawford all finished within a second and a half of each other, posting times under the five-minute mark.
Junior
Jordan Hoffman placed fifth in the 100m hurdles, while senior
Katy Garcia finished 10
th overall.
The 400m dash was another strong event for the Flyers as UD picked up eight more points. Seniors
Maya Pedersen and
Chelsea VanHook finished third and seventh respectively while freshman
Claire Attea came in 11
th.
In the shot put, freshmen
Erin Reese and Jenni Rossi continued Dayton's success on the day. Reese took third with a mark of 14.06m and Rossi was right behind her with a distance of 14.04m. They were able to add 9.5 more points to the Flyers' total.
Reese and senior
Aly Weeman then headed to the discus throw where both Flyers finished in the Top 10. With a mark of 41.51m, Reese finished seventh overall and Weeman took ninth, with a throw of 38.38m.
Junior
Sydney Riethman set a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 5.29, earning her fifth place. Garcia also competed in the event and took 11
th.
DeMange went from pole vault to the 100m dash and had a good showing, finishing fourth.
In the 800m, freshman
Grace McDonald took fourth overall, while sophomore
Maggie Pryslak, senior
Katie Ollier, and freshman
Megan O'Kane all had strong performances as well.
Freshman
Sarah Sepanski was another newcomer to have an outstanding outdoor debut, finishing first overall in the javelin. She recorded a distance of 37.88m, leading all competitors.
In the high jump, reigning A-10 Indoor Champion
Rebecca Maj finished third overall with a height of 1.63m.
Overall, Dayton had a great first meet of the outdoor season against quality competition and gained valuable experience for the freshman class.
The Flyers will return to action next weekend at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala.
