KAYLA ENGLISH AND MANDA CASH EARN A-10 WEEKLY HONORS

Combined, The Two Have Earned Seven A-10 Weekly Honors This Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton senior Kayla English was named Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week and freshman pitcher Manda Cash was named A-10 Rookie of the Week for games played April 6-12. It marks English's fourth time and Cash's third time earning their respective weekly honors.

English, from Grapevine, Texas, posted a 2-0 record with two starts in UD's 3-0 week. She allowed just one earned run in 11.0 innings of work for a 0.64 ERA. English also racked up eight strikeouts in those 11 innings. She struck out five and had no earned runs in a complete game win over the Hawks in the first game of the series on Saturday, April 11. English pitched 4.0 innings and picked up the victory in the final game of the series to help sweep SJU on Sunday, April 12. English is up to 539 career strikeouts to extend the UD record she already owns. English currently leads the league in shutouts and opponents' batting average (.158).

Cash, of Columbus, Ohio, was in shutdown mode once again this week, not allowing a single run and striking out 13 in 10.0 innings of work vs. Saint Joseph's, who was second in the A-10 standings going into the series. She pitched a complete-game shutout vs. Saint Joseph's in the second game of the series Saturday, striking out nine and walking none. It marked her first collegiate, complete game shutout. Cash then worked the final three innings for UD with four strikeouts to one walk earning the save in UD's 6-1 win over the Hawks Sunday. In doing so she picked up her fifth save of the season, tying UD's single-season record. Her five saves are tied for fourth best in the nation, and best for a freshman this year. Cash leads the Atlantic 10 in strikeouts per seven innings and saves, and is second in appearances and opponent batting average. Cash is one of the top three freshmen in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings with 9.4 and her earned run average of 1.66 is also Top 40 in the nation.

English shared Co-Pitcher of the Week honors with Fordham's Rachel Gillen. La Salle's Christina Bascara was named A-10 Player of the Week.

The Flyers equaled their program record with their 12th Atlantic 10 win, coming in the third game of the series vs. Saint Joseph's. Dayton is currently first in the A-10 standings at 12-2 overall. The sweep of the Hawks marks the third sweep this season in conference play for the Flyers.

UD plays a non-conference doubleheader at Ohio Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Flyers host George Washington in an Atlantic 10 three-game series starting with a doubleheader Saturday, April 18 at noon and a single game Sunday, April 19, also starting at noon. The Flyers are 28-11 overall.
