Box Score FAIRBORN, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision to Wright State on Tuesday.
Dayton was the first team to strike with an RBI double to left-center in the fourth inning by junior
Aaron Huesman.
Wright State answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs on three consecutive RBI singles and a bases loaded walk, taking a 4-1 lead. The Raiders scored again in the sixth to make it a four-run game.
In the top of the eighth, the Flyers cut into the margin with an RBI groundout by sophomore
Glenn Jones. Sophomore
Matt Poland continued the rally with an RBI single, narrowing it to a two-run game.
Senior
Zach Schira hit a crucial RBI double to left in the top of the ninth, pulling Dayton within one, 5-4. The Flyers were not able to get the tying run however and fell short.
In the contest, UD recorded seven hits while giving up 11 to WSU. Poland and senior
Alex Harris led the way with two-hit games. Jones, Poland, Huesman, and Schira provided the RBIs.
Starter
Mason Kutruff (L, 5-1) suffered his first loss of his debut season, giving up four runs on nine hits in four innings of work. Fellow freshman
Danny Hentz pitched the next four frames, allowing just two hits.
The Flyers (11-28) will host Saint Joseph's this weekend in Atlantic 10 play.
