FOUR MEDALISTS SUNDAY HIGHLIGHT THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT A-10’S

Final Results

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Dayton women's track and field team finished third at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships this weekend in Virginia.

"The women had an outstanding weekend," said Head Coach Jason Francis. "I'm proud of how we competed and in the performances we were able to produce."

The Flyers finished the competition with 92 points, which put them well ahead of fourth-place Massachusetts and fifth-place Duquesne.

The day started off with the women's 4x100m relay team, who finished just outside of the podium spots in fourth with a time of 47.31. That was the best performance in that event for the Flyers this season.

Senior Maya Pedersen finished sixth in the 400m finals heat with a time of 55.83.

In the 100m finals, senior Ashley DeMange placed eighth overall.

Junior Paige Yaeger competed in the 400m hurdles final heat after qualifying with the seventh best time yesterday. On Sunday, she finished seventh overall with a time of 1:02.99.

Senior Rebecca Maj earned the first medal of the day for the Flyers after taking bronze in the high jump. That paired with her gold at the indoor championships completes a successful season for the senior.

In the heptathlon, senior Katy Garcia finished up the combined events competition with the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m Sunday. With a season-high 4279 points, Garcia finished fifth overall.

Three freshman Flyers competed in the 5000m event with Emily Leonard leading the way in 11th place. Fellow newcomer Kate Crawford finished 20th while Nicole Steinbicker finished 23rd.

The shot put was an outstanding event for Dayton as freshman Jenni Rossi earned her first A-10 outdoor title, second overall, with a distance of 14.31m. That was a new personal record and the fourth-best mark in school history. Teammate and freshman Erin Reese finished runner-up and got the silver medal while senior Miranda Nelson took fourth overall.

Dayton's 4x800m relay team took 10th overall with a time of 9:20.34.

The day ended with another medal for the Flyers as Reese took third overall in the discus throw, earning her a bronze medal to go with her silver from earlier. Her throw of 42.33m led the way for Dayton. Senior Aly Weeman finished fifth overall while Rossi finished 11th as well.

For her accomplishments over the weekend, Reese was named Atlantic 10 Outdoor Most Outstanding Rookie. She is the fifth Flyer to receive the award, joining Amy Kremer (2006), Candace McKinley (2004), Tara Storage (2000), and Jodi Borges (1999).

Dayton will now send student athletes to the Louisville Twilight on May 8 with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA East Prelims on May 28.
