DAYTON HOSTS RHODE ISLAND SATURDAY

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will return home to host Rhode Island in Atlantic 10 action Saturday at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field. It is the second to last home game for the Flyers this season.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the weekend with a 5-8-2 record overall and a 1-3-1 A-10 mark. The Flyers need each conference game in order to make the A-10 tournament, sitting in 11th in the league standings currently.

The Flyers are averaging 1.00 goals per game and giving up 1.13 goals to opposing teams. UD is out-shooting opponents 13.9 to 12.1 each contest and has a corner kick advantage.

UD is led by freshman Rok Taneski, who has four goals and five assists while leading the team in shots and shots on goal. Sophomore Kennedy Nwabia has added four goals and two assists as well. Freshman goalkeeper Federico Barrios has made nine starts in his debut season with three shutouts and a 0.63 goals against average.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
RHODE ISLAND

Rhode Island is currently in ninth place in the A-10 standings, just outside of a tournament spot with a 2-3 league mark and a 5-9-1 overall record. The Rams defeated UMass this week, ending a three-game losing streak.

URI has lost eight of its last 10 games, after being outscored 1.07 to 1.40 goals per game. The Rams are out-shooting opponents however 12.6 to 11.1. Through 15 games, Rhode Island hasn't scored more than two goals in a single game.

The Rams are led by freshman Stavros Zarokostas, who has five goals and three assists, and junior Carlo Davids, who has one goal and four assists. Junior Nils Leifhelm has a 1.38 goals against average and 47 saves in 14 appearances.

THE SERIES
Dayton and  Rhode Island have played 23 times in program history with the Flyers winning 13 of those contests. The two teams last met in the semifinals of the A-10 Tournament last season with Dayton coming out on top 2-1 and advancing to the finals, which the Flyers eventually won.

LAST OUTING
Dayton left Philadelphia Wednesday with a tough 1-0 loss to La Salle in A-10 play, falling to 1-3-1 in conference games. A goal in the 20th minute handed the Fleyrs the loss.

Rhode Island defeated Massachusetts on Wednesday, 2-1. The Rams scored in the sixth minute to take the lead, then added to it in the 54th minute before a late goal by the Minutemen broke up the shutout. Zarokostas and Apajee were on the scoresheet for URI.

AMONGST THE BEST
UD ranks first in the A-10 in shots per game and second in fewest fouls per game. Individually, Taneski leads the league in shots per game and total assists while Barrios is first in GAA.

Rhode Island ranks second in the A-10 in shots on goal per game and third in total assists. Individually, Dominik Richter is fourth in the league in shots per game while Nils Leifhelm is sixth in total saves.

UP NEXT
The Flyers will remain at Baujan Field for the home finale and Senior Day on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. against Duquesne.
