DAYTON OPENS A-10 TOURNAMENT THURSDAY

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's soccer team enters the 2016 Atlantic 10 Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face the top-seeded Saint Louis Billikens on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the tournament quarterfinals. All games in the A-10 Championships will take place at Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers are in their fifth consecutive A-10 Tournament and looking to defend their 2015 A-10 Championship title. UD has won four A-10 Tourneys in program history: 2015, 2008, 1998, and 1997.

Dayton finished the regular season with a 7-8-3 record overall and a 3-3-2 in league play. The Flyers  have not lost since Oct. 19 on the road at La Salle. UD is led by head coach Dennis Currier, who is in his 12th year at the helm.

The Flyers are averaging 1.17 goals per game and allowing 1.11 to opponents. UD is out-shooting opposing teams 13.8 to 12.8 and hold a 108-87 corner kick advantage.

UD is led by sophomore Kennedy Nwabia, who has a team-high six goals and two assists, and freshman Rok Taneski, who has four goals and six assists in his debut season. Freshman goalkeeper Federico Barrios has four shutouts and a 0.70 goals against average in 12 starts, which ranks 16th in the nation.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
SAINT LOUIS

Saint Louis is 7-7-3 this year with a 6-2 A-10 mark. The Billikens have lost three straight contests, last winning against St. Bonaventure on Oct. 22. Head coach Mike McGinty is in his seventh season in chareg of SLU.

The Billikens are scoring at a rate of 1.06 goals each game and giving up 1.29 to opponents. A strong defensive effort has guided SLU throughout the season after the Billikens averaged just 8.2 shots per game. Opposing teams are shooting 13.8 times and have a 0.94 shot percentage.

Leading the way for SLU is Joe Saad and his four goals and four assists in 17 games. Max Karcher and Saadiz Mohammed both have chipped in four goals each. Goalkeepers Sascha Otte and Ben Yeager have split time between the posts, combining for a 1.23 goals against average and 68 saves.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Saint Louis have met 21 times previously with the Billkens winning 16 times and the Flyers winning three times. Earlier this season, Dayton hosted SLU on Oct. 8 and suffered a 1-0 loss to the Billikens after a goal in the 22nd minute.

LAST OUTING
Dayton needed a win to clinch a spot in the A-10 Tournament and did just that with a 3-2 overtime victory at VCU last Saturday. The Flyers got a pair of goals from junior Alvaro Navarro with his game-winner coming in the 97th minute.

Saint Louis ended the regular season with a 1-0 loss to George Washington on the road, but still managed to win the A-10 regular season title.

AMONGST THE BEST
UD ranks second in the A-10 in shots per game and fourth in total goals and goals against average. Individually, Taneski leads the A-10 in assists and ranks second in shots per game. Barrios is second in the league in goals against average and save percentage.

Saint Louis ranks sixth in the A-10 in saves per game and second in fewest cards. Individually, Mohammed is second in game-winning goals while Otte is second in saves per game.

UP NEXT
If they advance, the Flyers will play the winner of Massachusetts and VCU on Friday at 5 p.m. in the A-10 Semifinals.
