DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton baseball team will host Eastern Kentucky in non-conference action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Woerner Field in Dayton.
  • The Flyers enter the contest with a 5-17 record overall and 3-6 home mark. Dayton started off Atlantic 10 play with a tough series against Saint Louis, but is looking to get back on track against the Colonels on Tuesday. Head Coach Tony Vittorio is in his 17th year in charge.
  • Eastern Kentucky comes into the game on an 11-13 record and 4-7 mark away from home. The Colonels have played a challenging schedule so far and boast a 16-12 win over No. 13 Mississippi State earlier this month. Head Coach Edwin Thompson is in his first year at EKU.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS - DAYTON
  • The Flyers are batting .220 as a team with a .334 slugging percentage and .298 on-base percentage. Dayton has 30 doubles and 15 home runs to go with 13 steals and 82 free passes.
  • Leading the way for UD are Robbie Doring, with a .325 average, seven home runs, and 16 RBI, and Aaron Huesman, with a .260 average, eight RBI, and five extra-base hits.
  • The pitching staff for the Flyers has a 5.52 ERA with 121 strikeouts and 82 walks in 187 1/3 innings of work. Masashi Sakamoto and Kevin Piersol both have saves for Dayton.

WHO TO WATCH – THE OPPONENTS

  • Mandy Alvarez and Kyle Nowlin are the main offensive threats with 26 RBI apiece while Nowlin has 11 home runs in 94 at-bats. Four other Colonels have double-digit RBI in 2016.
  • As a staff, EKU has an ERA of 4.35 and 169 strikeouts in 213 1/3 innings. Brian Moz and Caleb Johnson have two saves each while Nick Cumpston and Chris Cervantes have made mid-week starts this season.
  • Defensively, the Colonels are on par with the Flyers, recording a fielding percentage of .964 with 33 errors.

LAST MEETING
  • Dayton and EKU last squared off on May 14, 2013 in Richmond, Ky. with the Flyers picking up a 14-11 win on the road. UD scored nine runs in the opening inning to cruise to a big win over the Colonels. Current UD pitcher Charlie Dant earned the win with seven innings of work in the start.

LATEST RESULTS
  • Dayton fell to Saint Louis on Sunday in the series finale, 5-3. The Flyers scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough to prevent the sweep by the Billikens.
  • Eastern Kentucky split a doubleheader at home against Evansville on Saturday, winning the opener 6-5 before falling in the nightcap 10-2. Nowlin homered twice in game one while the Colonels used six different pitchers in game two.
