NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton softball player Jessica Gilliam was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for her outstanding performances in games played March 21-27.

Gilliam was masterful in Dayton's win over Saint Joseph's on March 26, pitching seven innings while striking out five and only allowing one base hit. The Conifer, Colo. native didn't issue a free pass in the contest and the lone hit came on an infield single in the top of the seventh inning. The Flyers would go on to win the game in 11 innings.

The Rookie of the Week award is the first of Gilliam's career and the first of the season for a UD player.

Dayton returns to action on Tuesday, March 29 with a double header against Morehead State University, beginning at 3 p.m.
