KEITH HOPKINS NAMED ASSISTANT TRACK COACH

Hopkins Will Oversee the Multi-event, Jumps, Sprints and Hurdle Student-Athletes

Sarah Haveman, director of the University of Dayton women's track & field/cross country program, announced that Keith Hopkins will join her staff as an assistant coach, overseeing the multi-, jumps, sprints and hurdle student-athletes.

"I am excited that Keith will be joining our staff," said Haveman. "He has a tremendous work ethic and has proven success across many areas of track & field. Our student-athletes will thrive under his guidance and coaching."

Hopkins comes to UD after two seasons at Indiana State where he was responsible for the daily training of sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers, as well as serving as the assistant eligibility monitor. He coached All-American hurdler Adarius Washington and All-American sprinter Katie Wise while with the Sycamores.

"I'm very honored to work on Sarah's staff. We were teammates at Purdue and now I'm excited to work with her," said Hopkins. "She has made great strides with this program that's on an upswing and I look forward to working towards a conference title with the Dayton Flyers.

"I bring a wide-range of experience and knowledge and have worked with some great coaches, who I consider mentors," he added.

Prior to his work at Indiana State, Hopkins was an assistant coach at Baker University for two years where he worked with the sprinters, hurdlers and multi-event athletes. Under his guidance, several student-athletes earned conference championships and seven earned All-American honors.

Hopkins was a highly decorated hurdler at Purdue University. He was a three-time NCAA national qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.59 seconds, which is second all-time at Purdue. He also qualified twice for the indoor NCAA national championships in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best of 7.79 seconds. Hopkins was a 2008 member of the Olympic Trials in the 110-meter high hurdles.

He graduated from Purdue in 2010 with a degree in psychology and American Sign Language, with a minor in organizational leadership and supervision.

Hopkins earned his master's in sociology from Baker University in 2012 and a second master's degree from Indiana State in 2015 in coaching/physical education.

Hopkins is a certified USATF Level 2 Coach in the combined events, USTFCCCA certified in the jumps and strength and conditioning, and is USA weightlifting sports performance certified.
