DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team welcomes Northern Kentucky University to Spectrum Stadium for a single game on Wednesday, March 29 at 4 p.m.Â
ABOUT DAYTON
UD is 8-13 on the season after losing two of three games in its Atlantic 10 opening series against Richmond. Dayton welcomes Northern Kentucky to Spectrum Stadium for the first time in the history of this series, with the Flyers currently 7-12 against the Norse all time.Â
In the past two seasons, UD and NKU have played each other twice and both games went into extra-innings. Last season, with Dayton visiting Northern Kentucky, the Flyers fell 4-3 in 11 innings. In the 2015 season, the Norse pulled out a 10-8 victory in 14 innings playing at the Athletes in Action complex in nearby Xenia, Ohio.
Dayton is hitting .232 as a team on the season, led by senior
Maverick Prine, who has an even .300 batting average. Fellow senior
Nick Ryan, as well as redshirt freshman
Brandon Smith and true freshman
Tate Hagan, are all tied for the team lead in home runs with three.
The Flyers pitching staff has an earned run average at 6.28, with left-handed reliever
Peter Rozman turning in an impressive 1.74 ERA in 12 appearances. Southpaw starters
Tyler Henry and
Mason Kutruff each lead the team with two wins apiece.Â
ABOUT NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky makes the short trip north with a record of 8-14 on the season having lost to Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday evening.
The Norse have a team batting average of .267, being led by junior Dominic Mercurio with a .329 mark. Redshirt junior and University of Cincinnati transfer Jake Richmond has turned in a .317 average and leads the team in home runs with three and has also knocked seven doubles.Â
NKU turns in a team ERA of 6.64, being led by redshirt sophomore Cameron Ross with a 4.74 mark and a 2-1 record in 19 innings of work. The right-handed transfer from the University of Cincinnati has made 14 appearances on the season and has also picked up a team-best three saves.
