DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team has announced a change in schedule for its weekend series at St. Bonaventure. Due to inclement weather in western New York, the Flyers and Bonnies will no longer play on Friday, but instead will play the three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
Exact times for the games will be announced on Friday.
ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton comes into the series with a record of 9-13 after defeating Northern Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon. The Flyers' 10 runs was its most scored in a game since March 3 against UMass Lowell, and marked the fourth time this season UD has reached double-digits in runs scored.
The Flyers' offense has gotten a boost from a trio of second-year players, as sophomores
Connor Echols and
Pat Meehan, as well as redshirt freshman
Brandon Smith, each turn in batting averages of .290 or higher. Smith leads the team with four home runs on the season, and also holds the top slugging percentage (.659) and on-base percentage (.415).
UD's pitching continues to improve as the season moves on, with the collective ERA of 6.09 marking the lowest it has been this year. Flyer pitching has struck out 132 batters on the season while walking 102, with sophomores
Austin Cline and
Tyler Henry and junior
Mason Kutruff all leading the way with 19 each. Cline also leads the team in innings pitched (32.1) and batting average against (.221).
ABOUT ST. BONAVENTURE
St. Bonaventure has a record of 7-10 on the season and is 2-4 in Atlantic 10 play. The Bonnies lost two of three to both Davidson and Saint Louis, and have lost two games in a row coming into the weekend. SBU has only played one game in Olean this season, falling to Buffalo, 5-4, on Tuesday.
SBU is hitting .260 as a team on the season, led by Cole Peterson, who has an average of .324 in 17 games. Juniors David Vaccaro and David Hollins have each slugged two homers, which leads the team, and both have driven in 15 runs on the season, also the team-high.
The Bonnies' pitching staff has a 4.88 ERA on the season, led by Murphy O'Brien, who has turned in a 1.72 mark in 15.2 innings. Leading the starters is Aaron Phillips, who has a 3-0 record on the hill with an earned run average of 4.22. Opponents are hitting .268 against St. Bonaventure this season, and scoring 6.3 runs per game.

The forecast for the weekend in Olean, N.Y. is calling for frigid temperatures and a chance of rain. Saturday calls for a high of 42 with mostly-cloudy skies. Sunday is an improvement, however, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 50's.
