NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton softball senior Gabrielle Snyder has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year as announced by the league office Wednesday prior to the 2017 A-10 Championship. Individual awards and all-conference teams were voted on by league coaches.

Fordham's Lauren Quense and George Mason's Marina Vitalich were named Co-Pitchers of the Year and George Washington's Jenna Cone earned Rookie of the Year honors. Fordham's Bridget Orchard was named the league's Coach of the Year.

Snyder was joined by sophomore Kyle Davidson on the All-Conference First Team while junior Manda Cash earned mention on the Second Team. Snyder and Cash were both also recognized on the All-Academic Team in voting by each school's athletics communication representative.

A senior outfielder, Snyder leads the A-10 in batting average (.436), hits (76), and is fourth in the league in on-base percentage and slugging percentage. She also ranks in the top 25 in the NCAA in hits (10th) and average (25th). She has 25 multiple-hit games and 11 multiple-RBI games this year and enters the championship with a 22-game reached base streak and a 12-game hit streak. Snyder is also a pitcher for the Flyers, with an 8-7 record, one save and a 3.39 ERA in 25 appearances.

Snyder's Player of the Year award is the second in the last three seasons for Dayton. A Flyer has earned either (or a combination of) Player, Pitcher or Rookie of the Year in each of the last three years as well.

Fourth-seeded Dayton opens the A-10 Championship today against No. 5 Saint Louis in the first game of the tournament. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. at George Mason Softball Complex in Fairfax, Virginia.
