DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's cross country team will open up the 2018 track season this Friday and Saturday at the 14
th Akron Invitational.
The meet will take place at the Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio. Dayton is set to compete in multiple events, including the 3000m (Saturday at 10 a.m. and 5:10 p.m.) and the 5000m (Friday at 8:45 p.m.).
The Flyers will race against the likes of Xavier, Buffalo, Kent State, and Akron in their first meet of the track season.
"The men's team is opening their spring segment up with the Akron Invitational," said head coach
Jason Ordway. "Though we are coming off of an extended break, our workouts have been going very well, and we are excited to race. We have several big meets on the schedule this spring, so it's important that we take advantage of these early season meets. Most of the team will be competing in the 3000m and 5000m, giving us a chance to see where our early season fitness is currently at. In recent years, we've put more of a focus on the spring training season because it helps to set us up for a very competitive fall. The team has really responded and we look to continue that competitiveness into the future."
The Flyers are coming off a 2017 cross country season in which they won their second straight Atlantic 10 Championship, had four runners named to the All-Conference team, and the A-10 Coach of the Year in
Jason Ordway.
