Q&A With Recent #UDMTEN Graduate Zach Berry

Berry Returned To Campus For The First Time Since Graduation

After spending the past six months living in Wisconsin for work, former #UDMTEN standout Zach Berry had the chance to visit his alma mater for the first time since moving out of his campus apartment in May. While at Dayton, Berry amassed 77 singles wins and 71 doubles wins with fellow graduate Carsten Fisher, putting him at 4th and 3rd for all-time wins, respectively. In addition, he was the first Flyer in history to earn an ITA singles ranking and led the team this past season to a runner-up finish in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament. We caught up with Zach to gain some insight on his transition from the tennis court and classroom settings to the fast-paced working world.

Q: What was it like being back on campus for the first time since graduating?
A: It felt great to be back. I got overwhelmed my a sense of being at home when I drove back on campus. It was also great to see some of my old team mates before I had to leave.

Q: What can you say about your experience with UD Tennis preparing you for your life after college?
A: UD tennis taught me about work ethic and punctuality. These two things more than anything translate easily to the professional world.

Q: Do you think you will return to tennis one way or another in the future?
A: I like to think I never left. I haven't been able to play due to job training in Wisconsin. But when I get back home in Dayton permanently at the end of the year I intend to resume giving tennis lessons in my free time and hopefully join a league with some of the pros from the club I trained at growing up.
