#UDWBB Returns Home To Host Buffalo

The 2-5 Flyers Battle The 6-1 Bulls

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team returns home from a three-game road stint to host Buffalo Friday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. ET at UD Arena for the first home game since Nov. 21.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 2-5 overall and currently riding a three-game losing skid. The Flyers have faced a difficult schedule so far in non-conference play, including two ranked teams in No. 9 Maryland and No. 18 South Carolina. UD is 2-1 at home this season.

Head coach Shauna Green is the reigning A-10 Coach of the Year and is in her third season at the helm of the Flyers. With a 47-22 record at Dayton and three conference titles, expectations are high for the program.

As a team, the Flyers are averaging 61.7 points per game and giving up 65.3 points to opposing teams. Dayton is shooting 37.2 percent overall, 32.7 percent from three, and 67.2 percent from the free throw line. The Flyers face a -5.3 rebounding margin and -2.4 turnover margin.

Leading the way is junior Jayla Scaife, who is averaging 14.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Redshirt junior Julia Chandler is chipping in 13.0 points and 4.3 rebounds as well.

SCOUTING BUFFALO
Buffalo enters the game with a 6-1 record on the season, a four-game winning streak, and a 3-1 away mark. The Bulls' lone loss came at nationally ranked Oregon.

Head coach Flisha Legette-Jack is in her seventh season at Buffalo with a 125-77 record and 17 seasons of head coaching experience. She led the Bulls to the Sweet Sixteen last season in the NCAA Tournament.

Buffalo is outscoring opponents 77.0 points to 68.6 points per game. The Bulls are shooting 42.1 percent from the floor, 32.9 percent from behind the arc, and 78.5 percent from the charity stripe. UB is matching opponents with 34.3 rebounds per game, but has a +6.9 turnover advantage.

Buffalo's Cierra Dillard leads the nation with 26.4 points per game to go with 5.0 assists. Courtney Wilkins is contributing 14.5 points while Theresa Onwuka is adding 9.4 points each outing as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton suffered a 55-68 loss at James Madison on Monday night in Virginia. The Flyers were outscored 22-14 in the first quarter and were unable to mount a comeback. Jayla Scaife had a team-high 21 points and six rebounds.

Buffalo defeated Canisius 84-66 Tuesday on the road. The Bulls trailed early on, but outscored the Griffs 33-19 in the third quarter en route to the win. Cierra Dillard recorded 25 points, 10 assists, and six steals.

THE SERIES
Dayton and Buffalo have played two times previously with the Flyers winning both contests back in 2011 and 2012. In the last meeting on Nov. 23, 2012, Dayton defended its home court with a 68-44 victory.

CANNATELLI JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB
Senior Lauren Cannatelli became the 26th Flyer in program history to score 1,000 points after hitting a three at James Madison on Dec. 3. The senior guard joins an elite group of Flyers including hall of famers, all-americans, and players of the year, including her teammate from last season Jenna Burdette.

GREEN NAMED 2018 A-10 COACH OF THE YEAR
Head coach Shauna Green was named A-10 Coach of the Year in just her second year in charge. She guided the Flyers to historic seasons already and has a .746 winning percentage in 60 games.

NEW TO THE STAFF
Head coach Shauna Green announced two new additions to the coaching staff for the 2017-18 season in assistant coach DeAntoine "Cat" Beasley and video coordinator and recruiting assistant Will Alton.

Beasley comes to Dayton after a three-year stint as an assistant for the Gardner-Webb men's basketball team. There he helped guide the Bulldogs to winning seasons each year, including a 19-win season in 2017-18. GWU also had three All-Big South selections and the highest team GPA in nine seasons. Prior to his time at Gardner-Webb, Beasley served as an assistant coach at Pensacola State College in Florida, helping the Pirates finish 21-11 and win their 15th Panhandle Conference title. He also has coaching experience at Chattanooga, Tennessee Tech, and Auburn. Beasley had a seven-year professional career playing in England where he was a perennial All-Star, MVP in the National Trophy race in 2004, and received the 2004 BBC Sports Personality Award for the Southwest Region. After completing his playing career, Beasley began his coaching career at University of St. Mark and St. John, where the team won national titles in 2003 and 2004.

Alton comes to Dayton after serving as an assistant coach at the UMass Lowell. There he helped with video and recruiting as well as on-the-court training. He also has previous experience at Kentucky as the video coordinator, with the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA, and his alma mater, Penn State-Abington. Earning a bachelor of arts degree in corporate communication, Alton graduated from Penn State-Abington in 2012 after being a three-year starter on the men's basketball team.
