Jordan Benjamin was ranked No. 77 in the ITA's inaugural 2018-19 season rankings, which were released on Tuesday afternoon. Benjamin's No. 77 ranking is the highest ever for the Flyers tennis program and is the only nationally-ranked player from the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Benjamin, who is the reigning A-10 Player of the Year, compiled an overall record of 20-2 last season, including an unblemished 16-0 mark in dual match play, all at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. He also became the first-ever Dayton Flyer to qualify for the NCAA Tennis Championships. Benjamin won the opening set of his first round match up against nationally-seeded Constantin Schmitz of Tulane before falling in three sets.
Benjamin also qualified to compete in the 2018 Oracle ITA Masters Men's Championships in Malibu, California from Sept. 20-23. The Oracle ITA Masters is one of the premier events of the collegiate tennis season, featuring singles draws of 32 for both men and women. Players are chosen based upon conference representation, similar to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to his trip to Malibu, Benjamin and the rest of the Flyers kick off the fall season this weekend at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational in Mason, Ohio. A preview with information for the tournament will be released on Thursday.
