Jordan Benjamin Falls In Round One Of ITA Masters

Benjamin Will Compete In The Backdraw Of The Tournament Tomorrow, While The Rest Of The Flyers Will Compete At The UD Hidden Duals Beginning At 9:45 a.m.

Dayton men's tennis is competing once again this weekend and Jordan Benjamin started things off on Thursday by competing in the first round of the Oracle ITA Masters on Thursday in Malibu, Calif.

Benjamin, who is ranked No. 77 nationally by ITA, was matched up with No. 12 Mitch Harper of Virginia Tech and dropped the contest by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Harper took advantage of fast starts by winning four of the first five points in each set. Benjamin had multiple opportunities to take games in the second set with several deuce points, but was unable to take advantage and fell in straight sets.

Benjamin will compete tomorrow in the backdraw of the tournament with a matchup against Pepperdine's Adrian Oetzbach. Oetzbach lost his first round matchup against Johannes Schretter (Baylor) by a score of 6-2, 6-4.

The rest of the Dayton men's tennis program will compete in the UD Hidden Dual Meet this weekend at the Graul Tennis Complex. The hosting Flyers will welcome Wright State, Xavier and Northern Kentucky to compete at against at the event. The hidden duals will begin tomorrow at 9:45 a.m., while competition on Saturday is slated for a 9 a.m. start.
