NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Dayton women's soccer program earned six accolades today when the Atlantic 10 announced the 2019 Women's Soccer All-Conference and All-Academic Teams.
Freshman
Alexis Goins was named a First Team All-Atlantic 10 midfielder and was one of three Flyers named to the All-Rookie Team. Fellow UD freshmen
Laney Huber and
Landy Mertz joined her on the All-Rookie Team.
Senior goalkeeper
Emily Jones and junior midfielder
Emma Thomas were named to the 11-person Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.
Goins, from Fairfield, Ohio, led the Flyers in goals (7) and points (17) in her rookie campaign. She started in 18 matches for Dayton.
Huber, of Loveland, Ohio, led the Flyers in assists (5) and was second in points (13). She played in all 19 matches and started 14. She also led Dayton with 55 shots.
Mertz, of Pittsburgh, started all 19 matches for Dayton. She finished the season with three goals and two assists.
Jones, from Overland Park, Kan., started the final six matches in goal for the Flyers where she had 29 saves and a .93 GAA. An honor program student and Clare Boothe Luce Research Scholar, Jones carries a 3.74 GPA in biochemistry.
Thomas, of Moon Township, Pa., is majoring in finance and has a 3.97 GPA. She saw action in 17 matches for the Flyers. Thomas, who is part of Dayton women's soccer leadership team, was also named to 2019 Dayton All-Academic Team.
