Men’s Cross Country Duo Honored by A-10

Lawson Was Named All-Academic, Gizelbach Named All-Rookie

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its All-Academic and All-Rookie teams for men's cross country and recognized a pair of University of Dayton student-athletes.

Junior Kevin Lawson earned Academic All-Conference accolades while freshman Calan Gizelbach was named to the All-Rookie team.

Lawson earned All-Conference after placing seventh individually at the A-10 Championships. He placed Top 10 on four occasions this year. He earned A-10 Performer of the Week honors twice.

"Kevin has had an incredible junior year," said head coach Jason Ordway. "Receiving this award for his academic accomplishments is a testament to his well-roundedness in all aspects of being a student-athlete. He has really become a leader for us in all areas."

Gizelbach earned A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades on Sept. 24 and had a stellar debut season for the Flyers. He highlighted the season with a 10th-place performance at the Queen City Invitational, his first collegiate competition.

"Calan is a fantastic worker and strives to master all that he is involved in," Ordway added. "He is positioning himself to be a force within the A-10 Conference for many years to come and I'm excited to work with him into the future."

Dayton finished the 2019 fall season with three team titles and another third-place finish. The Flyers placed sixth at the Atlantic 10 Championships and capped off the season with a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet.
