Dayton has already recorded its highest win total since the 2012 season when the Flyers won 31 games and won the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Riley Tirotta is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak for the Flyers and is one of four players in the lineup hitting above a .270 clip. Freshman
Benjamin Blackwell leads the team with a .301 batting average, while team captains
Mitchell Garrity and
Connor Echols are hitting .285 and .277, respectively.
Alex Brickman has also come on strong late for Dayton with a hit in each of the last six games after missing the previous 22 with a hand injury. UD has also proven to be dangerous on the base paths, as the Flyers have the second-most stolen bases in the Atlantic 10 with 104 as a team and
Michael Cleary, Tirotta, and Garrity all ranking in the top-10 in the conference.
Hunter Wolfe has set the tone in weekend series all season for Dayton as the Friday night starter. Wolfe has an Atlantic 10-leading mark of eight wins on the mound this year. The junior has an 8-4 record this season and has a 3.82 ERA, while striking out nine batters or more in five of his 12 starts. Junior
Cole Pletka has been another strikeout wizard for the Flyers with 63 punchouts in 42.2 innings on the hill. Dayton is just five strikeouts away as a staff from setting a new team record for most strikeouts in a season.
