Women's Soccer Faces Two BIG EAST Opponents This Week

Flyers Play At Xavier Thursday And Host DePaul Sunday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (1-1-0, 0-0-0 A-10) takes on a pair of BIG EAST opponents in the second week of action. First up is Xavier (2-0-0) this Thursday, Aug. 29 in Cincinnati. The Flyers then host DePaul (0-2-0) on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. at Baujan Field. Admission and parking are free for all Flyer women's soccer regular season home matches.

PROMOTIONS VS. DEPAUL
• Promotions include schedule posters and thunder sticks for all.
• Dayton Flyer vuvuzelas for fans.
• The team will sign autographs following the match vs. DePaul.

THE SERIES
• Dayton leads the all-time series 26-10-3 over Xavier. The Musketeers won the matchup last year at Baujan Field, 2-0, on Sept. 13, 2018. The Musketeers led 1-0 before the Flyers scored an own goal with three seconds left in the match to give Xavier the 2-0 win. The previous year, the Flyers won 1-0 on Jordan Pauley's golden goal in the 98th minute. UD has won 18 of the last 21 matches dating back to 1999.
• Dayton and DePaul have met once before with the Blue Demons coming away with a 2-1 victory on Baujan Field on Sept. 2, 2012.

FLYER QUICK HITS
• The Flyers went 8-9-2 overall last season. UD returns 16 letterwinners from that squad and they have 10 newcomers.
• Senior Micayla Livingston is Dayton's leading returning scorer.
• Sophomore Izzy Greene, a 2018 A-10 All-Rookie selection, was UD's second leading scorer last year.
• Freshman Alexis Goins scored two goals in Dayton's 5-1 season opening win over Miami (Ohio). Senior Caroline Mink scored the game-winning goal.
• Senior Jordan Pauley scored on penalty kicks in back-to-back matches vs. Miami and Illinois.
• Key losses for the Flyers include graduated seniors Keagin Collie, four-year starting goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns who had 18 career shutouts, as well as Beth Kamphaus and Nadia Pestell, both four-year starting defenders.
• Head coach Eric Golz is in his third season at the helm of the Flyers. He previously served as an assistant at UD in 2011.

SCOUTING XAVIER
• Xavier was 10-8-3 during the 2018 season and 4-3-2 in the BIG EAST. The Musketeers finished a program-best fourth in the BIG EAST standings.
• Xavier is returning 23 letterwinners, including eight starters, from last season's squad.
• The Musketeers are 2-0-0 to start the 2019 season with a 4-3 double overtime victory at Murray State and a home 2-1 win over Bowling Green.
• Samantha Dewey, the 2019 BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, scored all four goals in the win over the Racers, including the golden goal in the 110th minute. Dewey leads Xavier with eight points this season.
• Dewey led the Musketeers last year with nine goals (4 GWG) and seven assists.
• Freshman Jackie Richards scored the gamewinner vs. BGSU in the 52nd minute. She was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
• Olivia Jenkins (90 minutes) and Toni Bizzarro (109 minutes and six saves) have split time in goal.

SCOUTING DEPAUL
• DePaul went 8-6-5 overall last season and 4-3-2 in the BIG EAST.
• DePaul was picked to finish sixth in the BIGEAST preseason poll for the second consecutive year
• The Blue Demons are 0-2-0 to start the 2019 season with a pair 2-1 home losses to Milwaukee and SMU.
• Kristin Boos and Jessica Lazo have scored DePaul's two goals this season.
• Led by head coach Erin Chastain in her 13th season, the Blue Demons return 17 players and welcome eight freshmen.
• DePaul's captain Franny Cerny was named to the 2018 All-BIG EAST First Team
• Center back Adrian Walker was tabbed to the 2018 All-BIG EAST Second Team
• Goalkeeper Mollie Eriksson and midfielder Ellie Mink both earned a spot on the 2018 All-Freshman Team.

• The Flyers play at Bowling Green on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
• Dayton returns home to host Indiana State on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. ET at Baujan Field.
