DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's tennis team is set to open its spring season at home against Northern Kentucky on Jan. 18. The Flyers' roster features six returning players and four newcomers – three freshmen and one transfer.
Dayton's 2020 slate includes 15 home matches at South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg, Ohio. Both the men's and women's teams moved their home-match venue beginning this past fall.
"University of Dayton is located close to a lot of good programs and we will be playing some tough teams to get us ready for the conference tournament," head coach Erica Echko mentioned. "I'm looking forward to traveling to the Redbird Invitational at Illinois State and our most important matches will be the A-10 matchups against Duquesne, Saint Louis and Davidson."
"We look to really improve our record from last season, and we have the talent to do it," commented Echko. "Our goal is to get above .500 and to win a round at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Championship."
Seniors Natalie Allen, Anna Delaney and Emily Zargham will serve as team captains with Allen and junior Kelly Pleiman returning as the team's top performers from last season.
"Our team captains do a great job of working together, communicating with the younger players and leading by example," said coach Echko. "I expect our returners to each have a strong season and I'm excited to see the impact of our incoming players."
The sophomore class includes Mary Brascia, Claire Ghidotti, who transferred from High Point, and Zoe Woods while Elizabeth Hamilton, Paige Kompa and Erica Wojcikiewicz are in their first year competing at the collegiate level.
