DAYTON - University of Dayton men's basketball freshman
Malachi Smith and volleyball freshman
Lexie Almodovar have been named the
Ohio's CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week for contests during the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 5.
A Bronx, New York, native, Smith was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week after his performance in two 30-point wins for the Flyers last week. Despite playing a total of just 49 minutes in the two games, Smith averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals in wins over Alabama State and Northern Illinois. He made seven of 10 shots from the floor (including two of three three-pointers), and was 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
Hailing from Noblesville, Indiana, Almodovar posted back-to-back double-doubles in Dayton's NCAA Tournament matches last week. On Thursday, she had a match-high 21 kills to go with 15 digs, three assists and two blocks in UD's 3-1 win over Marquette. In Dayton's second-round 3-2 loss to sixth-seeded Purdue, Almodovar had 10 kills and 13 digs for her team-best 10th double-double of the season.
Each week we will recognize Dayton student-athletes throughout the end of the school year.
