DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team will head to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on Campbell. The Flyers will open the season on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. before returning Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest against the Camels. UD will finish the series on Sunday at 12 p.m. with all three games coming at Jim Perry Stadium.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers opened the season last weekend against South Carolina, who was ranked 18
th in the country to open the 2021 season. UD fell in all three games but stayed with the Gamecocks for seven innings on Sunday, allowing four runs in the eighth to fall 5-1. Senior
Cole Pletka put up a big performance in the contest, allowing just one run in six innings on the mound.

Benjamin Blackwell got a hit in all three contests in Columbia, S.C., leading the team with a .375 batting average. Senior

SCOUTING THE CAMELS
Campbell is the defending champion of the Big South Conference and were selected as the top team in the conference in the Preseason Poll. The Camels went 2-1 over opening weekend against Liberty. After falling in the season opener, Campbell dominated on Saturday winning 17-3 over the Flames before taking the series with a 3-2 victory on Sunday.

Offensively the Camels sport the Big South Preseason Player of the Year in Collin Wolf. The redshirt senior went 5-11 against Liberty driving in four runs over the first weekend. Wolf's .455 batting average ties him for first on the team with redshirt junior Zach Williams. Williams went deep during Saturday's contest against the Flames driving in four runs as well on the season.

On the mound, Ryan Chasse will get the ball for the Camels on Friday to bring up a lefty vs. lefty matchup between him and Dayton senior
Hunter Wolfe. Chasse picked up the first victory of the season for Campbell, going five innings giving up just two earned runs on four hits while striking out six. Thomas Harrington and Jonathan Beymer will follow Chasse as the probable starters for the weekend.

MATCHUP HISTORY
This will mark the fifth, sixth, and seventh games between the two programs with Campbell holding a 3-1 advantage over the Flyers. The two programs split a two-game series at Campbell on March 17-18, 2009 while The Flyers fell on the road to open the season on Feb. 23, 2008 in both games of a doubleheader with the Camels.
