DAYTON - University of Dayton men's golf sophomore
Kyle Schmidt and track and field sophomore
Casey Bogues have been named the
Ohio's College Advantage Student-Athletes of the Week for contests during the week of April 12-18.
Schmidt, who hails from Cincinnati, earned medalist honors at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate April 12-13 with his six-under-par, three-round score of 69-65-70=20. He helped lead the team to a first-place finish among the field of 12 teams and the Flyers' second round score of 269 is the lowest single-round team score since at least the 2008-09 season. Schmidt also led the team at the Penn State Rutherford Intercollegiate with a 12th-place finish over the weekend.
A native of Red Bank, N.J., Bogues broke the Dayton record for javelin for the third time in as many meets she's competed in for the Flyers. She surpassed her previous record of 49.20 with a throw of 49.94m at the Indiana State Gibson Invitational on April 16. She earned 10 points for the Flyers with her first-place finish. Her mark is the best in the Atlantic 10 by nearly 1.5m. It's also currently 18th best in the NCAA East Region and 32nd best in all of NCAA. Bogues was also named A-10 Field Performer of the Week on April 20.
Each week we will recognize Dayton student-athletes throughout the end of the school year.
