Box Score 2 DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team dropped both games in a doubleheader with Davidson on Friday night at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C. In UD's first Atlantic 10 games of the season, the Flyers fell in the first seven-inning game 2-1 before finishing the night with a 10-8 loss to the Wildcats in seven innings.

The Flyers now sit at 10-21 overall and 0-2 in A-10 play. Senior
Hunter Wolfe kept the Flyers in the first game, with his seven strikeouts putting his career total at 188, putting him in fifth place in Dayton history in the category, as he passed Tom Harrison, Austin Cline, and Craig Stammen on the day and sits 30 behind Luke Trubee for fourth place.

Eddie Pursinger and junior
Marcos Pujols each homered on Friday, with Pujols hitting his in the first game and Pursinger leading off the scoring with a two-run home run in the second game.

GAME ONE
ON THE MOUND
Wolfe got the ball in the first game of the doubleheader and did not disappoint on the mound once again. The lefty pitched a complete game while allowing just two unearned runs on four hits while picking up seven strikeouts through six innings. The outing continued a stretch of dominant starts from Wolfe, as he has now allowed just three earned runs in his last 40 innings spanning six starts and two complete games. The lefty has 57 of his team leading 63 strikeouts in this span.

SCORING PLAYS
Bottom 5: (2-0 Wildcats)
Davidson led off the inning with a single. After a strikeout by Wolfe, another single advanced the runner to third and a wild pitch put two in scoring position for the Wildcats. A groundball got away from Pujols at first allowing one run to score and a wild throw home allowed the second run of the inning to score, making it 2-0.

Top 7: (2-1 Wildcats)
Pujols led off the inning with his fourth home run of the season to cut the lead to one in the final inning, but the Flyers could not bring the tying run home and fell in the first game by this score.

GAME TWO
ON THE MOUND
Junior
Bryce Hellgeth got the start for the Flyers, going the first two innings for Dayton, picking up five strikeouts while allowing four earned runs on two home runs. Graduate student
Ben Olson would enter for Hellgeth, going the next full inning for Dayton, allowing one run on a home run.

Freshman
Austin Brush was next, also pitching one inning allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits. Graduate student
Tyler Jones made his 80
th career appearance, one of just three in the history of the program to reach that feat. Pitched one-third of an inning, allowing one hit before freshman
Parker Bard relieved him.

SCORING PLAYS
Top 1: (3-0 Flyers)
Senior
Mariano Ricciardi led off the game with a single to right field. Junior
Benjamin Blackwell moved him to second with a walk and Pujols was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Senior
Riley Tirotta brought Ricciardi home on a ground ball to the shortstop to give the Flyers the lead. Pursinger followed that with his seventh home run of the season to make it 3-0 early in Davidson.

Bottom 2: (3-2 Flyers)
Hellgeth walked the leadoff hitter and after back-to-back strikeouts a home run to left center field cut UD's lead to one.

Top 3: (4-2 Flyers)
Blackwell reached on an error to open the inning, advancing to second on the throw. He would steal third and score on an RBI single by Tirotta, extending Dayton's lead to two.

Bottom 3: (5-4 Wildcats)
A leadoff walk followed by a home run tied the game at four. Olson would enter and get back-to-back groundouts, but a solo home run gave broke the tie in favor of Davidson.

Bottom 4: (7-4 Wildcats)
A one-out walk followed by a fielder's choice gave Dayton two outs. An error on senior
Mitchell Garrity in center field brought home the first run of the inning. A double on the next at bat made it a 7-4 deficit for UD.

Bottom 5: (10-4 Wildcats)
The Wildcats led off the inning with back-to-back singles followed by back-to-back doubles brought home three runs and made it 10-4 Davidson.

Top 6: (10-8 Wildcats)
Graduate student
Chris Cabrera led off the inning with a single to center field. A walk by junior
Jay Curtis and a wild pitch put runners on second and third with nobody out. Cabrera scored on a groundout by Garrity making it a 10-5 deficit. A single by Ricciardi brought Curtis home and a double by Blackwell put two in scoring position once again. Pujols brought two more runs home with a single off the right field fence to cut the lead to two, but Dayton could not bring home any more runs in the next two innings giving the game its final.

The Flyers will return to play the third game in the series at Davidson Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
