LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three University of Dayton softball players have been recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on its Mid-Atlantic All-Region Teams as announced by the organization on Thursday, May 20.
Senior
Abby Ehrenborg and freshman
Megan Ward were named to the Mid-Atlantic Second Team and junior
Alyssa Cacini was honored on the Third Team. This is the first time since 2015 Dayton has had three or more players named to NFCA All-Region Teams.
Dayton closed out its 2021 season with a 21-26 overall record and as the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship runner-up. All three NFCA award winners were recognized on the A-10 All-Championship Team for their efforts during the conference postseason tournament.
Ehrenborg finished her tenure as a Flyer holding the program's career records for home runs (44) and RBI (134) while also equaling the single-season home run record (18) this season. Ward led the team and the Atlantic 10 with 66 hits on the season and was named to the A-10 All-Conference Second and All-Rookie Teams for her work during the season. Cacini earned First Team All-Conference honors and posted career highs in average (.319), hits (45), doubles (12), home runs (8) and RBI (33).
A total of 380 student-athletes from 154 programs have received 2021 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2021 NFCA Division I All-America squads.Â
