Men’s Cross Country Adds Four To Program

Callahan, Dunlop, Ewert, and Fisher Will Join The Flyers This Fall

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's cross country program and head coach Jason Ordway have announced the addition of four student-athletes to the team for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

The Flyers welcome Austin Callahan, Jack Dunlop, Connor Ewert, and Jacob Fisher to the program.

"I am very proud to announce the incoming members of the Flyer Family to the men's cross country team," said Coach Ordway. "We are adding a significant amount of depth, talent, and leadership to the team that will ensure our success into the foreseeable future. Having graduated a lot of experience following last year, it was very important that bring in this level of talent and work ethic to solidify our rather large group of underclassmen."

Austin Callahan – Westfield, Ind. – Guerin Catholic High School
Callahan was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Golden Eagles, earning 3A All-State honors as well as being a state finalist and team captain. He was named All-County and All-Conference twice and is the conference record holder in the 3200m run and 4x800m relay indoors. Callahan helped lead his team to the conference championship and state finals as a senior. On the track, he was part of the state runners-up in the 4x800m indoor. He plans to major in marketing.

"Austin Callahan is another Indiana product, coming to us from Guerin Catholic High School. Our main focus will be working on his consistency because he has the potential to race for big performances when he is clicking. As we develop him and get him stronger, Austin will be a key role player for us over the next several years as he works with our midpack to solidify our team score at big invitationals."

Jack Dunlop – Lewis Center, Ohio - Olentangy Berlin High School
Dunlop was a three-time team captain and team MVP as a senior after competing all four years at Olentangy Berlin High School. He was twice a regional qualifier and holds the school record in the 3200m at 9:39.76. On top of his athletic achievements, Dunlop was named scholar-athlete six times, earned an AP Capstone Diploma, and graduated Suma Cum Laude as a National Honors Society member. This past spring, he also qualified for regionals in track as well. Dunlop plans to major in computer science or business.

"Jack Dunlop joins the Flyer Family from Olentangy Berlin in Delaware, Ohio," added Ordway. "Jack has a great mentality and work ethic that I think will fit in very well with the culture we've built on the team. He is currently a bit underdeveloped but with a big upside that I'm hoping we can foster and develop in this first year working with us. Once we get him working with our pack I think we're going see rapid improvement and he'll surprise some people."

Connor Ewert – Beavercreek, Ohio – Beavercreek High School
Ewert comes to Dayton from nearby Beavercreek High School where he was a four-year letterwinner and All-Conference honoree. He set a PR 5K time of 15:34.7 while earning an honors diploma in the classroom. Ewert also set a personal best in the two-mile with a time of 9:19. He plans on majoring in civil engineering at the University of Dayton with the hopes of going into a career in the military.

"Connor Ewert is a phenomenal local talent coming to us from Beavercreek High School," said Ordway. "He is an incredible worker with a blue-chip personality that is remarkably consistent in his performances. We are hoping he can establish himself early on and contribute his freshman year. Connor is a great student and leader that will help me keep everything running smoothly."

Jacob Fisher – Carmel, Ind. – Carmel High School
Fisher joins the Flyers after three standout seasons at Carmel High School in Indiana. He racked up numerous awards including Third Team All-State, All-Semi State, All-Regional, All-Conference, and All-County as a senior. He was named an IATCCC Indiana Cross Country All-Star and led his team to state runners-up finish that past two seasons. Prior to that, Fisher was part of the 2017 and 2018 Indiana State Champions at Carmel. On the track, he received three varsity letters and was named All-State after finishing third in the 3200m. He was also All-Region, All-Sectional, and All-Conference last season as well. In the classroom, he was Academic All-State, twice in cross country and once in track, and was a four-time Scholar-Athlete.

"Jacob Fisher has had an incredible senior year," said Ordway. "He comes to us from a high school powerhouse program at Carmel High School in Indiana. We'll be looking for Jacob to come in and be a difference maker right away. This young man is a competitor and is ready to fight for position on the team and against any competition we put him up against. He is very humble when you speak with him, but once he races he flips that switch and becomes a fierce competitor."
