DAYTON - University of Dayton volleyball head coach Tim Horsmon has announced the signing of three student-athletes to play volleyball at UD. Gaby Arroyo (Miami, Florida/Westminster Christian), India Gantt (San Antonio, Texas/Holmes) and Emory Hinckley (Fort Worth, Texas/Paschal) will be joining the team for the fall 2023 competition season.
"This freshman class will immediately help add to a strong returning core and solidify three positions for our program," said Horsmon about the signing class. "We love the skill and length of Emory and the athleticism of India. Gaby gives both in terms of a skilled player with high end athleticism. We should have a great deal of depth next year and will be internally competitive for all positions which should make for a great gym and training environment."
Gaby Arroyo, a 5-9 libero/outside hitter from Miami, Florida, is set to graduate from Westminster Christian School in May 2023. She has played her prep career under head coach Julie Doan and has been an integral part of the Warriors' to back-to-back district and regional championships in 2021 and 2022. The two-time First Team All-Dade County honoree led Westminster Christian into the FHSAA Class 3A championship match Nov. 11. "Gaby is a gifted athlete who has played as an outside hitter throughout her high school and club careers," Horsmon commented. "She most likely will move to a libero position here and I think immediately makes us more athletic in that position but could see time as an outside situationally as well with her big jump and a great arm. Her high school team right now is ranked 1st in the state of Florida and 8th in the nation. Gaby also comes from a great lineage of athletes where her dad, Carlos, played in the NBA for nine years."
India Gantt is a 6-2 middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, and is finishing up her prep career at Holmes High School under head coach Laura Suarez. Was named to the 6A District 29 First Team following her junior season and was twice honored with the Harlandale Independent School District All-Tournament Team trophy. A member of the Holmes High School honor Roll, Gantt plays club ball with SA Juniors under head coach Albert Trevino.
"India is a strong athletic middle that we believe has a big upside we will see throughout her career here at Dayton," Horsmon Said. "She is a physical blocker that will help us immediately in how we block and defend. India plays hard and we love how she competes. India comes from an athletic family and her brother, Marco Anthony, is having a great career playing basketball at Utah."
Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Emory Hinckley is 6-2 setter at Paschal High School under the tutelage of head coach Tim Reimann. Hinckley, a team captain for the Panthers, was named to AVCA's 2022 All-America Watch List and the 2022 AVCA Best and Brightest First Team. She is a three-time all-district team member and holds the Paschal program record for single-season aces (62). Hinckley collected a career-high 48 assists in a single match and she finished her career with a total of 2094 assists. She most recently played club ball with Skyline under coach Whitney Sample and was a member of its USAV 17 USA National Championship team.
"Emory is a 6-2 setter coming to us from one of the most competitive areas in the country for playing high school and club volleyball," reflected Horsmon. "She is technically sound and delivers a great ball. We believe she will turn into a solid blocker and attacker in her position and her understanding of how to run an offense is already very high. Emory has won two national championships at the USA level in her club career. We're excited that she will be here early this spring to start her training."
