DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team released it's 2022 spring season schedule on Tuesday, where it will play a slate of five matches, including three in the inaugural Spring Cup Mar. 26 - Apr. 10.
"We are excited about this spring; it will be the first traditional spring season we have had since 2019," commented head coach
Eric Golz. "It is a great time to see some individual and collective growth, fine tune, as well as experiment with some different things to better prepare for the fall of 2022. We are looking forward to competing in the inaugural Spring Cup with some really quality programs. It will provide some great competition, but will also be relevant for our players to gain meaningful experience in competing for a championship this spring."
The Flyers will open the spring season on Sunday, Mar. 6, as they plan to host the Miami Redhawks at Baujan Field at 1:00 p.m. While none of the spring games will count toward historical records, the Flyers are 4-1-0 against Miami all-time, dating back to 1984.
The Dayton coaching staff has had a pivotal role in establishing the first-ever Spring Cup, which this year features six of the top Division I teams in the Midwest region; Dayton, Xavier, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Ball State, and Louisville. The Flyers will open their Spring Cup competition on Saturday, Mar. 26, as the Ball State Cardinals will come to Baujan Field for a 1:00 p.m. match. The Flyers will face the other team in their pod, the Louisville Cardinals, on the road on Saturday, Apr. 2 at Lynn Stadium, one of the premiere college soccer venues in the country, at 2:00 p.m. Based on the results of those two matches, the Flyers will face off against the corresponding seeded team from Pod 2, either Xavier, Cincinnati, or Kentucky, in the finals of the event on Sunday, Apr. 10 at the Racing Louisville Training Facility.
The Flyers will round out the spring schedule at Baujan Field on Saturday, Apr. 23, as they host the Ashland University Eagles for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
