Baseball To Play At Day Air Ballpark Tuesday Night Against Ohio State

It Will Mark The First Of Three Games This Year At The Home Of The Dragons

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team will play at Day Air Ballpark for the first time this season, hosting Ohio State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the home of the Dayton Dragons. It will mark the first of three games played at Day Air and the Flyers will be partnering with the Epilepsy Foundation to help raise awareness for epilepsy during the game.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ as well as three different radio outlets, giving fans plenty of opportunities to tune in to the game against the Buckeyes.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers took one of three on the road in Arlington, Va. against George Washington. Dayton fell 9-1 on Friday before knotting the series at 1-1 with a 5-3 win behind a go-ahead RBI double from Ben Jones. UD fell in the rubber match on Sunday 9-4.

Dayton will be playing at home for just the fifth time entering the team's 28th game of the season. The Flyers have had four games canceled this year, all of which were home games, most recently on Wednesday, April 6, against EKU.

It also marks the first of three games at Day Air Ballpark. The Flyers will play the Buckeyes on Tuesday, VCU on April 29, and Richmond on May 13. All three games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Graduate student Kenny Serwa is scheduled to take the mound against Ohio State, making his seventh start of the season. The Opening Day starter for the Flyers has pitched 22 innings this season after pitching three shutout innings in his last start against Northern Kentucky last Tuesday. Serwa allowed just two hits and struck out three in his time on the mound against the Norse.

Senior Jay Curtis leads the Flyers with a .291 batting average and has started all 27 games this year, joining junior Keagan Calero as the only two on the team to start every game. Senior Marcos Pujols has been a main run producer with six home runs and 20 RBIs, both of which lead the team.

SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
Ohio State enters the contest at 11-17 after taking two of three games against Michigan State over the weekend and a midweek over Youngstown State in 10 innings. The Buckeyes won 13-5 on Saturday and then split a doubleheader with the Spartans on Saturday, falling 10-8 and winning the finale 8-7.

The Buckeyes were picked to finish fifth in the Big Ten behind Nebraska, Michigan, Iowa, and Maryland.

Greg Beals is entering his 12th season at the helm of Ohio State and entered the year with a 325-258-1 record in his first 11 seasons. He has led the Buckeyes to three NCAA Regional appearances in the last six years and most recently a Big Ten Tournament title in 2019.

Marcus Ernst leads the Buckeyes offensively with a .394 batting average through the first 28 games, reaching base in half of his plate appearances. Zach Dezenzo has been the main source of power for the Buckeyes, hitting eight home runs and tallying 26 RBI. Trey Lipsen leads Ohio State with nine stolen bases and has yet to make an error in the field.

Ethan Hammerberg is 2-2 this season with two saves and a 2.45 ERA in 14 appearances this season. He is holding opponents to a team-low .188 batting average in 22 innings this season and has 32 strikeouts which is the most of any non-starter for Ohio State. Jacob Gehring is set to start for the Buckeyes and has a 1.80 ERA in five innings this season. He will be making his fourth appearance and second start for Ohio State, with six strikeouts in 2022.

MATCHUP HISTORY
This will be the 24th game between these two opponents, with the Flyers posting a 5-18 record all-time against Ohio State. The last game between these two was a 4-2 loss for Dayton on April 10, 2019 in Columbus.
