Track & Field Announces 2023-24 Indoor Schedule

10 Regular Season Meets Will Prepare The Flyers For Championships In Late February

DAYTON – The University of Dayton track and field announced their indoor schedule for the 2023-24 season. Their regular season will include 10 regular season meets with a few split-squad meets as well. The season will conclude with the A-10 Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Associate Head Coach Aaron Gordon shared with us his excitement for the upcoming season.

"I believe this year's indoor schedule provides our student-athletes the opportunity to not only compete at a high level, but also foster development throughout the season," said Gordon.

Season Debut

The season kicks off the same way it did last season with the Findlay Oiler Open on Thursday, November 30. They will have a select number of athletes competing, while other Flyers will compete in the Wittenburg Tiger Opener on Saturday, December 2.

Kicking Off 2024

Their first January meets will also be split-squad with some competing at Bowling Green on Friday, January 12 and others heading to Ann Arbor for the Michigan Invitational on Saturday, January 13. The following weekend will be the first time the entire team competes when they have a two-day meet at Indiana University.

"Having the ability to add Michigan and IUPUI to our schedule was a big addition as their facilities host a similar 200m banked track that we will run on at Virginia Beach," said Coach Gordon. "Indiana also hosts a 200m banked track of their own."

The IUPUI Invitational will mark the first time the Flyers compete at IUPUI, and it will take place on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27.

Split-Squads And Preparing For A-10's

The latter half of the season starts at the University of Notre Dame with the Meyo Invitational on Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3. "The Meyo Invitational will be a great benchmark for a select group of our student-athletes as it hosts some of the best teams and athletes in the country," explained Coach Gordon. "I look forward to seeing our student-athletes push themselves against the best of the best."

While some will compete at Notre Dame, other Flyers will be competing in the Akron Invitational on Saturday, February 3. "Our throws group will split up for two weekends as they travel to Bowling Green (in January) and Akron," said Gordon. "As a staff, we felt it was important to maximize our student-athletes' competition and opportunities. BGSU and Akron have always been meets where our throwers have thrived and competed well. I am excited to see them go out and compete at a high level again this year."

The indoor season has its second-to-last meet on Friday, February 9 and Saturday, February 10 with the Marshall Invitational. "Last year, we competed extremely well there by bringing back three event titles, multiple PRs, and 29 top-10 finishes. We were very pleased with our results at that point in the season, which is a big factor to go back again this year."

The last meet of the regular season is the Flag City Open at the University of Findlay on Friday, February 16. This meet will have a small group of Flyers competing as they get set for the A-10 Championships.

A-10 Indoor Championships

The Flyers will compete in the A-10 Indoor Championships on Friday, February 23 and Saturday, February 24 in Virginia Beach. "With the Atlantic-10 Championships moving to the Virginia Beach Sports Center (which hosts a 200m banked track), our schedule will provide our student-athletes the opportunity to run on some of the premier 200m banked tracks in the country," said Gordon.

"Overall, I am extremely pleased with this year's schedule and look forward to an exciting year of University of Dayton track and field. Roll 'Yers!"
