NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton softball sophomore Maddie Kapsimalis and freshman Izzy Kemp have earned Atlantic 10 Conference weekly awards. Kapsimalis was named Player of the Week while Kemp earned Rookie of the Week accolades as announced by the conference office on Monday for games played March 20-26.

George Mason's Aly Rayle was named the A-10 Pitcher of the Week.

Kapsimalis led Dayton to a 4-1 week with a .600 average as the Flyers' everyday second baseman. She knocked out her first career home run Saturday in Dayton's first game against Massachusetts, a 9-3 win. In the nightcap, an 11-3 five-inning win, the infielder from Glenview, Ill., tallied two home runs and four RBI. She was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate on the day. For the week, Kapsimalis tallied nine hits, including three home runs and two doubles, to go with six RBI and five runs scored while posting a .647 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage. 

Kemp posted a 0.69 ERA with two earned runs allowed and 29 strikeouts over 20.1 innings pitched. She opened the week with a complete-game shutout win with a career-high 12 strikeouts at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday. Kemp, a righty from Westfield, Ind., also picked up a save in a combined shutout win over the Norse in Tuesday's nightcap. On Saturday, she collected seven strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work in Dayton's 9-3 win over Massachusetts. Followed that with 10 strikeouts against the Minutewomen Sunday, her third double-digit strikeout game of the season. This was Kemp's second weekly honor this season.
