ABOUT THE FLYBOYS
- This season marks the 11th time in program history Dayton has made the Atlantic 10 Tournament, and coincidentally the fourth time making it as the tournament's No. 3 seed. The Flyers have an all-time record of 14-19 in the league's postseason tournament, winning the tournament for the first and only time in 2012. Since head coach Jayson King took over the program in 2018, the #FlyBoys have made the tournament three times. In the previous two instances (2019 & 2021), UD advanced to the championship game before falling.
- The Flyers opened the A-10 Tournament against No. 6 George Mason, falling to the Patriots 5-4 in 11 innings. UD, trailing 4-2 in the ninth inning, battled back to tie the score at 4-4 thanks to a home run from Mason Dobie and Paxton Tomaini scoring on a passed ball. The FlyBoys could not scratch out another run, however, and GMU rallied for a run in the top of the 11th with two outs.
- Sophomore Mason Dobie has been red hot of late, hitting his seventh home run of the season against George Mason in the opener of the A-10 Tournament. The Meaford, Ontario native slugged three home runs in the season finale against Massachusetts, the first such instance for the Flyers in at least a decade (definitive single-game records date back to 2013). After seeing action in just 19 games as a freshman and collecting five hits in 26 at-bats, Dobie has earned his playing time as a sophomore thanks to his .278 batting average, .386 on-base percentage, seven home runs, 32 RBI and .915 OPS.
- Senior first baseman Marcos Pujols was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10, the conference office announced Wednesday, May 24. It marks the second All-Conference honor for Pujols in his career, having also been named All-Atlantic 10 First Team as a designated hitter in 2021. Pujols has been one of the top hitters in the A-10 all season, boasting a .314 average with career-bests in home runs (14), doubles (10), runs scored (40), walks (29), slugging percentage (.590), and on-base percentage (.437). The senior slugger has started 51 games, leads the Flyers with 111 total bases, and is third on the team in total hits with 59.Â
