DAYTON – The University of Dayton softball team reached the 35-win mark for just the third time in program history and the Flyers made the program's 10th-consecutive and 14th overall appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2023.
UD finished the year with a 35-19 overall mark, tying for most wins on the season among teams in the A-10, and a 15-7 league record to close out its conference slate in third place.
The Flyers were paced by Dayton native sophomore
Emma Schutter with a .467 average (5th NCAA), 85 hits (4th NCAA), 44 runs scored, 13 doubles and 29 stolen bases (29th NCAA) while collecting 67 putouts and five assists to zero errors in center field. The 2023 A-10 Player of the Year, Schutter was honored on the NFCA DI Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team and was the first Flyer since 2008 named to the CSC Academic All-America® Second Team.
Freshman right-handed pitcher
Izzy Kemp (13-8) led the Dayton pitching corps with a team-low 1.72 ERA, which ranked second in the A-10 and among the top 50 nationally, and led the conference with a .172 opposing batting average.
