ST. LOUIS – University of Dayton linebacker
Gideon Lampron was named the Pioneer Football League's Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance in UD's 16-14 win over Davidson to remain undefeated in league play Saturday.Â
It was his third PFL weekly honor in five games this season. Â He was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
Lampron, whose middle name is ESPN, blocked two field goal attempts on Saturday, which was half  of the four kicks Dayton special teams blocked on the day. Â
Jerell Lewis blocked another field goal and
Mac Grant III took care of the punt. Â Dayton has blocked a kick in the last three games, and the six blocks this season are the most in FCS football.
A redshirt sophomore from LaGrange, Ohio, Lampron's first block came late in the first half on a 42-yard attempt and allowed Dayton to take a 13-7 lead into the break. Then, on the drive after Dayton took a 16-14 lead, Lampron blocked a 46-yard potential game-winner attempt with 3:56 remaining in the game. In addition, he had 11 tackles (five solo), including one for loss, as the Dayton defense held what was the PFL's top offense well under its averages in points, total offense and rushing offense.
Lampron currently leads FCS football in TFL (2.3 per game).  He is also  second nationally in blocked kicks (2), sixth in forced fumbles (0.4 per game) and eighth in total tackles (9.8).  He is the PFL leader in TFL, blocked kicks and forced fumbles.  He is also second in tackles and fumbles recovered (1), and third in sacks (0.7 per game).
Dayton travels to Indianapolis next Saturday to play against Butler in its third conference game of the season, at 1:00 p.m. EST. UD's next home game is on Oct. 26 against Morehead State.
