WASHINGTON - University of Dayton women's soccer freshman
Laney Smith has been named the Atlantic 10's Co-Rookie of the Week, the third-consecutive time the forward has won the award.
Massachusetts senior Ashley Lamond was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Saint Joseph's graduate student Katie Cappellett earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Smith and Fordham freshman Julie Acosta split the final Rookie of the Week honors of the season. The awards are for games played Oct. 21 - Oct. 27 and was announced on Monday.
Smith played a total of 147 minutes over Dayton's final two regular-season games, earning her first career start in the finale against Saint Louis. The Fort Thomas, Ky., native scored UD's first goal of the game in a 2-2 tie at Fordham on Thursday, her eighth of the season, with three of her five shots in the match coming on goal. On Sunday, she worked a career-high 78 minutes for the Flyers in the 0-0 draw against Saint Louis. This is the third week in a row Smith has earned Rookie of the Week honors.

As the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship, Dayton will host No. 7 VCU in a quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The semifinals will be played Wednesday, Nov. 6, and the title game – the winner of which receives the A-10's automatic NCAA Tournament bid – is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 10.
