DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team hosts George Washington on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in Atlantic 10 play.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton returns home to Baujan Field for the first time since Aug. 25 and holds a 4-1-2 record on the year. The Flyers are 0-0-1 in Atlantic 10 play and unbeaten in their last five contests. Dayton's lone loss this season came at home to Jacksonville.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 20th year at Dayton and is the winningest coach in program history. He ranks eighth among active Division I coaches in career wins.
Dayton is averaging 2.43 goals per game and holding opponents to just 1.14 goals each outing. The Flyers are shooting 19.7 times per game, which leads all of Division I, and allow 9.9 shots to opposing squads. UD also holds a 50-27 corner kick advantage.
Leading the way for the Flyers is former A-10 Offensive Player of the Week and central defender
Hjalti Sigurdsson with 11 points on five goals, which ranks second in the A-10. Senior
Joseph Melto Quiah has chipped in two goals and leads UD with three assists.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington comes to Dayton with a record of 2-7-1. The Revolutionaries are coming off a 2-5 loss against George Mason a week ago. They did not see action midweek. The Revolutionaries have a 1-4-1 record on the road this year.
Head coach Craig Jones is in his 13th season in charge of the Revolutionaries. In 2021, he advanced the team to their first A-10 Championship appearance for the first time since 2011.
As a team, George Washington is scoring 0.90 goals per contest and giving up 2.70Â goals to opposing teams. The Revolutionaries are shooting 11.4 times per game compared to 14.7 attempts for opponents and at a higher percentage.
The main offensive threat from George Washington is Louis Crofts with team highs of three goals while Jaden Dubon has chipped in two goals as well.
LAST OUTING
Dayton opened up A-10 play with a 2-2 draw on the road at Loyola Chicago on Sept. 21 The last four meetings between the two teams have ended in a draw as
Hjalti Sigurdsson scored both goals for the Flyers.
George Washington suffered a 5-2 loss on the road at George Mason on Sept. 28. The Revs scored in the 30th minute to take the initial lead, but gave up three goals in the final 23 minutes to the Patriots.
SETTING THE STANDARD
Dayton ranks second in the country in shots per game and seventh in shots on goal per game. The Flyers are also top 25 in corner kicks, points per game, and scoring offense.
Individually,
Hjalti Sigurdsson is eighth in the nation in shot accuracy and 40th in total goals while
Joseph Melto Quiah is seventh in shots per game.
