DAYTON - University of Dayton men's basketball junior
Javon Bennett and volleyball senior
Alyssa Miller have been named the
Ohio's CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week. These awards are for contests held Dec. 9-15.
Bennett, a native of Orlando, Florida, led the Flyers to a come-from-behind win over sixth-ranked Marquette with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. He also had a season-high three steals and his +/- rating was +16, more than double anyone else on the team. Bennett's third steal came in the backcourt when he picked the pocket of the Marquette guard and laid it in to tie the game 53-53 with 7:43 left on the clock. That layup completed an 11-minute, 13-point comeback and Dayton did not trail again.
Miller, who hails from Overland Park, Kansas, put up 21 assists after sustaining a significant leg injury in Dayton's first set against No. 3 Nebraska during UD's first NCAA Regional semifinal appearance. She returned to the game and helped Dayton claim the first set off the Huskers at a home match in over a month. Miller divvied out 12 assists in the Flyers' victorious third set, topping Nebraska 27-25.
