DAYTON - The University of Dayton baseball team plays a pair of midweek games this week starting on Tuesday, March 12 when they travel to Northern Kentucky University for a 2 p.m. game. The #FlyBoys returns to the friendly confines of Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. showdown with Bowling Green.
Wednesday's home game will be streamed on ESPN+, the first home game for the FlyBoys this season. Veteran broadcaster Alex Mikos will be on the call.
STRONG WEEK FOR THE FLYBOYS
-Â UD put together a strong week of work, winning a midweek against in-state foe Toledo and turning around to win a four-game series with South Dakota State. After dropping the series opener against the Jackrabbits, 8-5, the Flyers bounced back in a big way, outscoring the potent SDSU lineup 38-14 the rest of the series.
DOMINANT DAVID PEDANOU
-Â Junior
David Pedanou put together a standout performance for the Flyers during the week, helping the Flyers to a 4-1 showing against Toledo and South Dakota State. Pedanou turned in a .438/.875/.609 slash line for the week, hitting a pair of doubles, a triple, and his first home run of the season. The Worcester, Mass. native scored 10 runs, drove in seven, and swiped four bases.
MENDEZ MASHES ANOTHER WEEK
- After being named last week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the week, freshman
David Mendez continued his strong start to his rookie campaign, hitting .333 in five games and turning in a .941 OPS. The Aldie, Va. native hit two doubles and a triple on the week, drove in six runs and scored five more. He was also perfect in 11 chances in the outfield and picked up his first career outfield assist.
- Mendez's standout performance on the week came in a 3-for-5 showing against SDSU where he drove home a career-high four runs.
STARTING PITCHING PAVES THE WAY
- Part of the reason for Dayton's 4-1 week last week was the strength of its pitching, in particular its starting rotation. All four starters of the week pitched into the fifth inning, including two going into and/or through the seventh.

Ryan Steinhauer pitching 6.2 innings and allowed just two runs against Toledo in the midweek, and ace
Chris Peguero took a tough-luck loss after pitching seven complete and striking out eight while allowing four earned runs.

Parker Bard tossed a season-high five innings, striking out four and allowing just one run on three hits, while freshman
Connor Fennell kept the potent South Dakota State lineup at bay over five innings, allowing three earned runs. Fellow freshman
Ayden Tran surrendered four earned runs in 4.1 innings of work, but still struck out five.
- In total, the starters turned in a 4.50 ERA while striking out 25 batters.
MAJICK MAN
- Senior reliever
Eli Majick picked up his first win of the season against SDSU and turned in a strong week overall, pitching five innings over two appearances and turning in a 1.70 ERA. The Cincinnati native struck out seven, walked just one, and scattered a pair of hits in the two appearances.
DOBIE DELIVERS
- Junior
Mason Dobie turned in a fantastic week at the plate, hitting .412 with an OBP of .560 and SLG of .647. The third baseman hit his first home run of the season against South Dakota State, drove in six runs and scored five himself, while also reaching base seven times via walk.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION (PT. 2)
- After the Dayton offense scored 30 runs in its three-game series with High Point last weekend, the FlyBoys turned around to score 49 in its five games last week, an average of 9.8 runs per game.
- The offensive explosion was capped by a season-best 16 runs scored by the Flyers in the series finale with South Dakota State.
- As a whole, UD hit .290 over the last week with an impressive .484 OBP.
SCOUTING THE NORSE
- Northern Kentucky is 7-8 on the season, coming off a sweep in its weekend series with Western Illinois. The Norse have series victories over UT Martin and the SEC's Missouri to go along with the sweep of the Leathernecks.Â
- NKU has an impressive lineup offensively, with six hitters turning in a .300-or-better average. Jake Paulick leads the way with a .488 average in 43 at-bats, while getting on base at a .593 clip. Liam McFadden-Ackman is hitting .414 with nine home runs and seven doubles, both tops on the team. McFadden-Ackman also has the team-high in RBI (29) and runs scored (21).
- The pitching has an ERA of 9.02 for the season, while opponents are hitting a robust .316 against the Norse. NKU is 0-3 in midweek games this season.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
- Bowling Green enters the week with a 5-7 record overall, but riding a three-game winning streak after a sweep of Miami (Ohio) to start Mid-American Conference play. Of BG's losses, three came at the hands of No. 8 Tennessee.
- The Falcons' offense has a .264 batting average coming into the week, led by DJ Newman and Tyler Ross, who have batting averages of .348 and .341, respectively.
- BGSU has a team ERA of of 8.49 on the season and has allowed opponents to hit .314 on the season.
