Double Dose of Doubleheaders for #FlyBoys at Butler This Weekend

UD And BU Play At 12 PM Both Days

DAYTON - The #FlyBoys get back to work with a four-game, two-day series with Butler this weekend, taking on the Bulldogs in a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Bulldog Park.

TRAN, BRUSH AND DENSMORE'S COMBINED SHUTOUT
- Wednesday night's 7-0 shutout of Eastern Kentucky by the Dayton trio of Ayden Tran, Austin Brush and Travis Densmore was the first for the Flyers since shutting out Ohio State 6-0 at Day Air Ballpark during the 2022 campaign.
- Tran pitched the first five innings, striking out six and allowing just one hit. Brush came in in relief to throw three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and Densmore finished the game off in the ninth with a pair of strikeouts.

TRAN'S SCORELESS STREAK
- Freshman Ayden Tran has not allowed a run in three consecutive outings, totaling 8.1 innings. The southpaw now leads the FlyBoys in total strikeouts (26) and strikeouts per nine innings (14.0) on the season. The Jacksonville, Fla. native has made three starts on the season and made seven total appearances, putting together four outings with five or more strikeouts.

MADE FOR MARCH
- While many eyes are focused on postseason basketball, the FlyBoys have started to heat up on the diamond as well.
- Dayton has won 10 of 13 games this month, including series wins over High Point, South Dakota State, and Eastern Illinois. The Flyers have turned in a .293/.461/.453 slash line this month, slugging 17 home runs, 22 doubles and three triples. The pitching ERA sits at 5.31 in March, striking out 116 batters as a staff and walking 46.

MENDEZ KEEPS MASHING
- Freshman David Mendez was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Mendez is the first freshman in the conference to earn the award twice this season.
- Mendez had another tremendous week for the FlyBoys, hitting .579 with two home runs, a double, eight runs scored, and eight RBI. The Aldie, Va. native had an OPS of 1.601 and was 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
- The freshman had multi-hit performances in four of five games on the week, including three-hit games against Bowling Green and Eastern Illinois, where he also reached once via walk. In Dayton's 17-11 win over EIU, Mendez was on base six times (two hits, three walks, one HBP), scored four runs and drove in three. He is now hitting .481 on the season.

ROAD WARRIORS
- The FlyBoys nine-game road swing over 11 days has them playing in three different states (Illinois, Indiana and Ohio) before returning home to open Atlantic 10 play against Fordham.
- Dayton is 6-6 away from Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium this season, with three of those losses coming at the hands of then-No. 1 Wake Forest.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Butler is 8-10 on the season thus far, including a 0-2 record when playing at Bulldog Park. The Bulldogs split their midweek games this week, defeating Miami (Ohio) in Oxford before falling at home to Ball State.
