UD And SBU Play A Single Game Saturday And Two On Sunday

DAYTON - The University of Dayton baseball team heads to Western New York to take on St. Bonaventure in a three-game Atlantic 10 series this weekend at Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The series has already been shifted from its original schedule, and weather in the area could force more. For the most up-to-date information, please follow the FlyBoys on social media.

DOBIE DELIVERS
Junior Mason Dobie ended the Flyers' opening A-10 weekend in style, launching a walk-off home run beyond the right-center field fence to give UD a 6-5 victory over Fordham. The homer not only gave the FlyBoys the win in the game, but also the series victory in the Atlantic 10 opening series with the Rams.

WINNING THE WEEKEND
Dayton has won five of seven series and tied another this season, defeating Lindenwood, High Point, South Dakota State, Eastern Illinois and Fordham so far this year and splitting a four-game series at Butler. In those 20 games, the FlyBoys are slashing .299/.480/.428 as a team and averaging 8.4 runs per game.

Dayton's lone series loss on the season was to then No. 1-Wake Forest.

WELCOME BACK WATTY
Graduate student Nolan Watson missed a few weekends of action due to injury, but announced his return to the lineup with authority this past weekend against Fordham. Watson went 5-for-10 at the plate with two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.

The Manahawkin, N.J. native turned in an OPS of 1.715 thanks in large part to the two homers, but also with his .615 on-base average. Watson had hits in all three games for Dayton, including multi-hit games in the FlyBoys' two wins.

YAMIN (STILL) HEATING UP
First baseman Eddie Yamin IV continued his hot streak of late, hitting .536 (15-of-28) over the last seven games with two home runs, two doubles, 11 runs scored, and seven RBI. The West Sand Lake, N.Y. is tied for the team lead team in home runs now with six on the season, and is also sixth in the Atlantic 10 in RBI with 29 on the campaign.

FANTASTIC FENNELL
Though finishing with a no-decision on Sunday, freshman Connor Fennell turned in the top pitching performance of the weekend for Dayton, turning in a quality start of six innings pitched, two earned runs allowed, and striking out a career-best nine batters. The Flyers ultimately won the game, 6-5, thanks to Mason Dobie's 10th-inning walk-off homer, making UD 4-1 on the season when Fennell makes the start.

WISSMAN'S BUSY WEEKEND
Senior reliever Nick Wissman was busy once again for the FlyBoys this weekend, playing a major factor in both of UD's wins on the weekend. Wissman got the save in Dayton's 12-6 win over Fordham by pitching the final 3.1 innings on Saturday, and turned around to pitch the final two innings and get the win in UD's 6-5 victory on Sunday.

The right-hander pitched 5.1 innings in total on the weekend, allowing two earned runs and striking out four. Wissman not only leads the A-10 in saves (and is 13th nationally), but is tied for the league-lead in wins as well (5).

BACK TO DAYAIR
The FlyBoys return to DayAir Ballpark for a midweek matchup with Eastern Kentucky Tuesday, April 23. UD has set a new attendance record each of the last two seasons when moving its home field to downtown Dayton, beating Ohio State in 2022 in front of 3,859, and taking down cross-town rival Wright State last season in front of 6,743.

SCOUTING THE BONNIES
St. Bonaventure is 8-15 overall on the season and 0-3 in Atlantic 10 play so far, dropping the opening weekend of league play at George Washington. This weekend will be just the second home game of the season for SBU.
