FAIRBORN, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's cross country started its season at the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic and finished in third place, only one point out of first. It was the fifth straight year the Flyers began the year at Fairborn Community Park. Wright State hosted the event that featured nine teams. The course described as relatively flat and fast was set up for a 5,000 meter run.
Dayton was led by Graduate Student Sam Duncan who was the third collegian to cross the finish line with a time of 14:56. He was followed by an impressive collegiate debut from Freshman Andrew Wilcox who finished fourth with a time of 15:13. Graduate Student Isaac Burkart was right with him, also finishing in a time of 15:13 which was good enough for sixth place. Freshman Logan Arnold and Senior Connor Ewert finished side by side in 19th and 20nd with a time of 15:33 to round out the scoring places for the Flyers.
After the race Coach David Dobson said, "Today was a nice opportunity to put the jersey on and compete. I am proud of the way the men competed and this is just the first brick in what this team is building this year."
