Men's Soccer Headed To Big Apple For A-10 Semifinal Match At #2 Fordham

Dayton Making Its Fourth-Consecutive A-10 Semifinal Appearance

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team is traveling to The Bronx Tuesday ahead of its Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal match at Fordham Wednesday. The third-seeded Flyers and second-seeded Rams will kickoff at 1 p.m. Nov. 12 at Fordham's Moglia Stadium for a spot in the Championship title match.

Dayton is making its fourth-consecutive and seventh overall appearance in the A-10 semifinal match in the last eight seasons.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (7-2-7) is making the program's 24th appearance in the A-10 Championship after earning the No. 3 seed. As a team, the Flyers lead the A-10 in goal differential (15 - 37th NCAA), save % (.809 - 17th NCAA) and shutout % (.563 - 9th NCAA). Senior Ethan Sassine leads the Flyer attack with eight goals (1st A-10) and junior Martin Bakken with seven (t-2nd A-10) while sophomore Andrew Armstrong has tallied four assists. Senior keeper Gavin Krenecki has worked 1,350 minutes in goal and carries a 0.60 GAA (9th NCAA) and .845 save % (7th NCAA).

SCOUTING FORDHAM
Fordham (8-5-4), who enters Wednesday match with an 11-9-5 all-time mark in A-10 Championship matches, earned the tourney's No. 2 seed following the regular season. The Rams advanced to the semifinal round with a shootout win over Saint Joe's Saturday night. Daniel D'Ippolito has netter six goals and dished out nine assists (9th NCAA) for 21 points (1st A-10) to lead the team. Tristan Stephanie is the Rams' primary goalkeeper with a 0.90 GAA (3rd A-10), .796 save % (3rd A-10) and 43 saves.

SERIES STUFF
Dayton Leads, 13-9-2
In the Flyers' and Rams' meeting on Oct. 8 at Fordham, FOR's Luke Pompliano scored the game's lone goal. Dayton and Fordham also squared off in the semifinal round of the 2024 A-10 Championship - a 2-0 win by the Flyers in Dayton.

LAST TIME OUT
In Dayton's quarterfinal match against #6 VCU on Friday at Baujan Field, the Flyers dispatched the Rams by a margin of 4-2. UD fell behind, 2-1, early in the second half but responded by scoring three unanswered goals. Sophomore Andrew Armstrong netted what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 71st minute, his fourth of the season.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's most recent DI Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on Nov. 10, Dayton ranked 108th according to NCAA.com. Fordham came in at 89.

FLYER FACTS
• Dennis Currier is in his 21st season as head coach of the Flyers in 2025. His record at Dayton is 201-125-68 (.596) and his career win-loss mark sits at 389-174-80 (.667) over a total of 33 seasons. Currier has tallied the program's most wins (201) and most winning seasons (14).
• On Sept. 15, Farouq Ogundare picked up his first career Atlantic 10 weekly award after being named the league's Rookie of the Week. Following the first week of the season, three Flyers were recognized by the A-10. Ethan Sassine was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Gavin Krenecki garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades and Mikkel Madsen secured the Rookie of the Week honor on Aug. 25.
• Five Flyers were named to the 2025 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team: Andrew Armstrong, Martin Bakken, Miles Bonham, Ethan Sassine and Paul Yeboah.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title four times (1998, 2000, 2009, 2020). The Flyers have captured the A-10 Championship title six times (1997, 1998, 2008, 2015, 2023, 2024) resulting in six appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Over 24 appearances in the A-10 Tournament, UD has tallied a 24-11-5 record in the conference postseason championship, reaching the title match nine times.
• The Flyers finished the 2024 season with a 14-3-3 overall record and a 5-1-2 conference mark, finishing in second place in regular-season play. 

UP NEXT
Following the results of Wednesday's two semifinal matches, with a win Dayton will either go to St. Louis or host the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. local time.
